Class of 65 Cheerleaders
R.H.S. classmates have inquired as the why we no longer publish class list and contact information as well as the “Not Forgotten” page. A good portion of the contact information became outdated overtime. We have no objection to publishing “lists” on the website, however we do not have the person-power to maintain the lists.

If you would like to have your class list and contact information incorporated or a separate “Not Forgotten” list, please email you list in excel form to knight.cktocook@gmail.com.

Charles i am very disappointed the names of our deceased classmates have been taken off. Some people might thin it was depressing to read the names of thoses who have passed on. I feel we should know the names of our classmates who have passed on. If only to remember all the great memories of those we will never see again. Just my thoughts. By the way Father Brendan Quinn , class of 64 passed away last week, Cliff Lenox

I  stop by this website now and then and see it is being used less and less. I always thought it was a great way to keep in touch and updated. If any members of RHS Class of '61 wish to e-mail me just to say hello I would very much love to hear from you. E-mail me at Byrne125@aol.com.   Be well and be safe. TomD565

Still living in Alaska, but at our age, we go to our vacation Home on the Gulf coast in Florida. We enjoy the respite at our cabin on a lake 100 miles north of Anchorage. Our trips to the South Pacific Islands have ceased due to our 17 year old granddaughter now living with us. Retired Life sure is different with a teenager who wants to be an active \"Senior\"; we\'ll be glad when school is over. She has a job.

I am saddened to report that Jim Major, RHS class of 1962, has passed away. Jim moved to California years ago and was a retiree of Puralator as a vice-president.  Our friendship spanned more than 60 years and the memories of him and those years still make me warm. I will miss him terribly. The circle of friends I was fortunate to have back then keeps getting smaller. Rest in peace, my friend.

               In Memory

With heavy heart we shed a tear
For those who've passed and left us here.
We pray that time will ease our pain
But spare the fond thoughts which remain.
For thoughts and dreams will have to do
Until our time on Earth is through.
So trust we'll find that special place
Where all are granted peace and grace.
And where we'll meet just like before
In dreams which live forever more....

I'm searching for any news of an upcoming Class of '69 reunion.  Getting back to NJ after so many years is on the bucket list, and aiming for the 50th has been on that list for a lot of those years.   A big hello to my classmates, especially band members, scouts, and DeMolay brothers -- I really hope to see you.         P.S. - For any of you who remember my mom, she moved in with my family and me here in Virginia a few years ago, will be 97 in 3 weeks.  I hope I've got the good genes.

Hello, everyone, The class of '52 held a lovely reunion at the Breakers in Spring Lake on October 10, 2017. I was surprised that so many people showed up with their significant others or family members. The  reunion committee put this together without the aid of Alan Black, class  president, who passed away. The luncheon was enjouyed by  all. Thank you, committee, for putting this together.

Just a note to say that this is a fun homepage to visit.  It brings back soo many wonderful memories.  I occasionally get a shout out from folks I knew in HS on Facebook.  I am grateful to Joyce Tortoriello for being so dedicated in posting something almost daily.

After graduating, I travelled a bit, sang professionally with a group called the Rosebuds, graduated from Rider College (Rider University these days),  got married, had one daughter, came to work at Princeton University,   I have served on civic and community boards, sang in many choirs, chorales, praise teams, etc., and I will probably retire this year after 50 years with Princeton University.

Its great to still hear news about my HS alma mater.

IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT I WANT TO INFORM THE 1965 GRADUATES THAT HARRY ARNOLD DIED EARLY THIS MORNING - JULY 22, 2015.  HARRY WAS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST, CRAZIEST, LOVING AND MOST CARING HUMAN BEINGS THAT WE KNEW.  HE AND HIS WIFE LINDA RESIDED IN JONESBOROUGH, TENN.  MARRIED MORE THAN 45 YEARS, THEY SERVED IN THE AIR FORCE TOGETHER , AND HARRY RETIRED FROM THE AIR FORCE AS CAPTAIN. HE TAUGHT HIGH SCHOOL IN HENDERSON, NEVADA AFTER RETIREMENT FROM ACTIVE SERVICE AND SERVED IN THE GULF WAR IN 1991. HARRY LOVED HIS HOMETOWN OF WINFIELD PARK. HE LAST VISITED THIS AREA IN 2007 AND WANTED TO JUST WALK AROUND WINFIELD AND KN OCK ON THE DOORS OF PEOPLE HE WAS FRIENDLY WITH BACK IN THE 60'S.  HE DIDN'T CARE IF NEW PEOPLE WERE LIVING IN THOSE HOUSES, HE JUST WANTED TO SAY 'HI', I'M HARRY AND I LIVED IN WINFIELD GROWING UP AND LOVED IT'.  HARRY AND LINDA HAVE THEIR EMAIL ON THIS RAHWAY HIGH SITE, AND YOU CAN EMAIL LINDA IF YOU CHOSE TO EXTEND YOUR THOUGHTS AND SYMPATHIES TO HER. WE WILL MISS THIS BIG GUY TERRIBLY - HEAVEN HAS A NEW COMEDIAN.

It was very sad to hear of the passing of Tommy Hoagland. Most of you didn't know him .....I was grateful to have played along side of him his senior year ,my soph year @ RHS 1960. He was one of, if not the best athlete to ever walk the halls of RHS. He was a three sport letterman.....football,basketball and baseball...his greatest claim to fame being baseball....he was pursued by countless major league teams....His senior year, he was voted by sportswriters as the Most Outstanding Athlete in Union county....and award that previously went to Rahway greats Bobby Scarpitto and Joe Williams.....
Tommy was a good one....to know Tommy Hoagland made you a better person....my thoughts go out to his family....

I greet you fellow RHS classmates from far off Germany, How often has "What ever happened to the RHS Class of '65", popped into my mind during the past 50 years. We were such wonderful, dynamic kids back then, just waiting to go out into the world and make a difference. As I left the USA in 1969 and only managed to attend our 15th reunion in 1980, my last direct contact to Rahway slivered with the death of my parents. Thus, I have not seen any of you for a long time. I did hope, however, to attend our 50th class reunion in October, 2015. I imagined returning to good ol' Rahway High on Madison Aveue during Home Coming Weekend, touring places of yore, with fellow classmates, marching down Central Ave with the RHS Redskin Band to Veterans' Field and watching a football game. My dream would be to join together with all of you to make a collection and start a donation for a generous scholarship fund in the name of our Class of 1965 and some of our favorite teachers, like Ms. Ciano, Mr. Yothers, Mr. Dykes and Mr. Zareva. I pictured fellow retired classmates joining together with a higher mission to give something back to our home towns' school system, which formed and gave us so much. Where are those former Future Teachers and Nurses of America, Future Political Problems Club, Business Awards Club, Junior Boosters, Key Club, Varsity Club, National Honors Society, Student Council, RHS Band members, cheerleaders, twirlers and sport team members etc of the Class of '65 who have become parents, grandparents. politicians, educators, organizers, entrepreneurs, finance experts, responsible citizens etc, who have the ability and motivation to start a fund to leave a legacy that makes a difference? How well I remember the joint sincerity we shared during our last assembly together in June of 1965, when we repeatedly sang: 'For all we know we may never meet again. Before we go make this moment live again. We won't say good-bye until the last moment. We'll hold out our hands and our hearts will be in it. For all we know this may only be a dream. We come and go like a ripple in the stream. Remember today, tomorrow was meant for some. Tomrrow may never come...for all we know.' I, for one, would rather hold out my hand with my heart in it and donate the cost of my flight or a weekend cruise and establish a RHS Class of '65 Scholarship Fund than to fly across the Atlantic Ocean for another weekend of 'fun'! Who will join me in realizing something bigger than ourselves? After all...it is our 50th Class Reunion! Aurora Hannibal Gruber

Hi RHS friends.  the campaign is long over, but you can still participate in this.  the national federation of the blind has been working on fund raising for our jernigan institute.  if you'd like to support the imagination fund, just Text the word whozitken and a gift amount to 71777. if you just text that word with no amount a text message will come back giving you the link to the website.  https://app.mobilecause.com/social/public/9730 hope I got that right.  if not then reverse the words public and social.

I just learned of the passing of Sandy Zwiebel Chiaravallo.  I was very happy to see her at the class reunion in 2007 since we have not seen each other in decades.  My brother dated her in the 60's and I always thought she was absolutely beautiful in and out.  Those eyes, just gorgeous.  Sad because I thought I would see her again at the reunion in 2015. She will always be remembered as a wonderful, beautiful girl.C7

Ilost my wife of 49 years last month and I am having a rough time living alone for the first time inmy life. She was my rock and my soft place to fall. She took care of evryone and everything in our life. I miss her so. I reach out to you that may have been down this lonly road for some help in getting through these days. I have children and they have familyand are pretty busy with their lives. They mean well but just can't understand the depth of my lonelyness.  These are very tough times for me . I have never lived alone and the emptyness is tough for me. When I come home to our house and turn the key in the door I know things will never be the same ad the cold empty feeling in me will never go away . I have been stay with my daughter for the first 4 days but Iam home now and try to staybusy. I find myself crying more now than rightafter her death. I have not beenableto go to the cemetary by myself yet but  know I need to go .If there is anyone out there that can helpme get through this rough time please write . Life is so lonely now

Hi friends, it hasn't been posted here but Rahway high class of 1983 is having an informal gettogether next saturday night November 30 at the waiting room.  gary twerdak has organized it as a part of a larger celebration of our class.  this will also include the pep rally the night before thanksgiving, the rahway VS. clark football game on thanksgiving day and a tour of the highschool followed by the tree lighting the day after thanksgiving.  Gary is here on this sight so just look for his email address in the class of 1983 list or look for bret downey in the same place.  I'd especially love to see my friends from the classes of 1982 and 1983 that aren't on facebook.  I will try to make it to the football game and the event at the waiting room since I'm a certified access link rider.

Hello friends ken lawrence with another very important note from my friends at national federation of the blind.  recently the senate health committee passed a reauthorization of the rehabilitation act.  this act has two very bad things we want taken out.  I would like to ask that you call your senators and ask they support the amendments that will one take out the language referencing section 511 title 5 that allows good will and others to continue paying less than minimum wages to the handicapped.  and second the amendment that would stop the rehabilitation services administration from being transfered to the department of labor.  it would be a big help if my sighted friends on this site especially if the class of 1983 give me and my blind friends some help.  thanks much.

It is with great sadness, to announce the passing of Pete Fava, class of 1971.  Pete was one of the most loyal and dedicated friends anyone could ever have.  Pete's integrety was unequalled and he had that rare quality of seeing the "good" in others, and expressing that.  Pete was very honest in offering insight to his friends as well.  Never boastful, even though he had accomplished both success in his career, as well as in his life, in all aspects.  Pete was a devoted family man, and his pride and values  were centered around that. I am proud to say that he was truly "one of a kind" and that I was his friend.

Once more I have to pass along sad news concerning a member of  RHS Class of 1961.
I have been informed that June Williams has pased away after a relatively short
illness. For those of you who knew June I don't have to tell you that June was one of
a kind. She went thru life seeming to enjoy every minute. Though I can't honestly
say that I was real close to her what I can say is I am extremely sad to hear of her
passing and our groups' get-togethers will be less enjoyable because of her absence.

REST IN PEACE, JUNE.

I just got here and saw a message from my ugly kid brother< Bruce, who admitted to me he is ugly now but not back then.

To all my friends and acquaintances,  I want to announce that I wrote a book about my Vietnam experiences, called " A Marine's Journal: Feb 67-Feb 68" You can find it on Amazon, Kobo, and Volare web sites, also Abbottpress Under bookstore.

I am now a retired school teacher, spending most of my career teaching special ed kids. I wound up a high  school principal. Who'd a thunk it?

Was up in Jersey during the Sandy Storm in October &
got back last month and was able to drive up & down Route 35.

Can't believe how messed up the whole coast is.
I keep in touch with what is going on through
Jersey Shore Hurricane News.

Lots of wonderful memories of Rahway.
But moved to Tennessee after my parents died.

My granddaughter was born on 1/11/13 so will be
returning very soon again.

I'm going to get LOCKED UP !!!    I’m excited to tell you that I have chosen to serve as a MDA Jailbird and am being Locked-Up…that’s right, I’m going behind bars to help the MDA. In order to be released on good behavior, I need your help to raise my “bail”.

My bail has been set at $2,500.00 and if everyone I know makes a tax-deductible donation, I’ll reach my goal quickly!  Yes, this is real - not spam. By clicking on the button below you will see that it is the official MDA site.

Just click here to make a secure, online donation. This is a fun event benefitting individuals and families served by MDA who are affected by neuromuscular disease. I am honored to partner with MDA and help this important cause. As a matter of fact, the MDA hosts a Support Group for people living with muscular dystrophy, as well as a support group for caregivers right here in my local community. The funds I am raising are helping people right here!

Don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me with any questions.

Thanks in advance for your help. Together we’ll make a difference!

P.S. I’m counting on you, click here to donate.

HI TO ALL IN THE CLASS OF 1965 OR NEAR THAT GLORIOIUS YEAR! LIVING MY JERSEY SHORE DREAM IN SPITE OF STORM SANDY..HOPE TO BE BACK ON THE SAND SOON.
TRUST ME, OUR BEACHES HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS DEVASTATED BUT WE'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH AN OUT-POURING OF HELP FROM ALL OVER THE NATION! IF ONLY FEMA WOULD PUMP SOME MUCH NEEDED $$$ FOR THE BEACH RESTORATION AND THE RE-BUILDING PROCESS!! IF YOU CAN, PLEASE, PLEASE WRITE TO YOUR CONGRESSMAN OR THE GOVENOR..I CAN'T EVEN GO TO PATHMARK WITHOUT SEEING THE DISPLACED ON COTS IN CLOSED BUISNESSES!! NO JOBS, NO MONEY AND ALL NEW BUILDING CODES TO FOLLOW.
IT WOULD BE SO CHEERFUL TO HEAR FROM THE FOLKS I GREW UP WITH RIGHT NOW!!
THE NEIGHBORS ON BOTH SIDES OF MY CONDO HAVE THEIR GROWN KIDS AND POETS CRAMMED IN WITH THEM. ONE MAN EVEN HAS HIS X-WIFE HERE!! THEIR HOMES SLIPPED QUIETLY INTO THE BAY IN KEYPORT! ONE MAN IS EVEN A FIREMAN IN KEYPORT BUT STILL HAD TO WATCH EVERY FAMILY PICTURE, JEWELRY AND HUS HOME DISAPPEAR BENEATH THE RAGING TIDES! Just saw on the Rahway channel there is something in town that many might like to see. If you live in Rahway, or are in the area of Rahway tomorrow, Thursday , December 6th between 7 and 9PM, stop by the Union County Performing Arts Theater (Rahway Theater to you and me) and take in a Lloyd Garrison Art show. That\'s right....Lloyd Garrison Art Show from 7-9PM at the old theater. I\'m sure it will be time well spent and a delight to the eyes. Check it out.

Our RHS class of 1952 had a very nice reunion at the Holiday Inn in Clark October 13th.  Alan Black and the committee did a really good job getting lots of us old people together for a really nice reunion...a big 60..I can not believe that we are this old.  However, we all looked wonderful :)  and enjoyed the visit.   I enjoyed a visit to Rahway for just a look around.  I am glad that I did.  Now with the storm Sandy. I am sure that things are not the same.  The Rahway river did flood years ago just when there was a bad rain storm.  I hope all is fine and the people there are okay.  We all have fond memories of Rahway and the HS.

I live in Brick, NJ and we are doing well now.  No power from Mon-Thursday.  So many senior citizens in the Toms River area still without power.  My thanks go out to the electric co trucks from Michigan - I truly believe it was those workers that got our power on.  Thanks to all of the other state workers too.  Together we will get through this - and our JERSEY SHORE (not the TV show one) will be there again some day.

It seems to me that this website would be a good source of information concerning Rahway
grads and their experiences with/after hurricane Sandy. If you live in the areas effected by Sandy sign in and let the rest of us know your status.
I live on S.I. and managed to withstand
the storm fairly well though we did lose power for two days and gas four days later is still
difficult to find here on the island. Like most if not all of Rahway residents I spent many
a day/evening at the Jersey Shore. The photos from there are heart rending. Let\'s here

Hello class of 1983 special attention to those of you not on Facebook.  it is with great sadness I must pass along the news of the passing of our announcer mornings Stan Wotjkowski.  he passed away a couple weeks ago not sure as to the cause of death.  this comes from his X Susan lazar.  Stan was a classmate and although I didn\'t know him to well we did share english class together as juniors.  of course he was also the voice of morning announcements for both of my years at RHS after attending schools for the blind.  our deepest sadness to susan and the her boys.  Susan I did know very well an absolute sweetheart from my geometry class in 1981/1982.

As good and informative as this Rahway site is perhaps the reason for it\'s meager usage is
now it has a lot of competition such as Facebook
and personal e-mails. But it\'s always a pleaure
to stop in here and see a familiar name. I hope all is well with you and your\'s.

I agree with you Mary. When the web-page first started it seemed to get alot of messages but for some reason it slowed up. I come to it every so often to see what is going on. I\'m one of the Winfield kids and I am always looking for any messages from my fellow Winfielder\'s. I graduated in 65 but my older brother graduated in 61. His name was Charley but everyone called him Chuckie. We both loved growing up in Winfield and loved our time at RHS. So, if you remember me from the class of 65, please drop a line. Sadly we lost touch through the years.   Life is short.....Enjoy every single moment you have....Do not take one day for granted.....RIP Cappy

Hi Class of  RHS1970, and all other RHS Graduates.

Ran accross this site by accident. I am so glad I
found it. Don\'t get back to Rahway much, but when I do, its fun to drive around town. Its changed alot, but I can still see the images of my friends and me first riding our bikes and then driving around town. My first date was at the
Rahway Theater, and I don\'t think the admission
for me and my date cost more than a dollar. A
pizza at Teds was just a dollar at that time.

Remember how appaled we all were when gas went over a dollar a gallon? When I was in college, if the gas was 40 cents a gallon, I went
to a different station.

My family and I are doing well in Plainsboro, NJ. I have two grown sons, that will turn 24 and 22 in May. Hope you are all doing equally as well.

Sincerely,

Tom McKeever

Benny Doyle passed away on March 9th. Benny was an  inspiration to all of us who knew him. His smile radiated through the halls. His soft voice and mannerisms reflected Ben\'s unique "style". I can still see him taking those long slow strides as he went to class with his head tilted to the side.  He was unique in his kindness and his caring for others. Ben was an outstanding student as well as an athelete. His focus was to do his best at all times and that was refected in his character.
Ben was a man of faith. As Christians we believe the words spoken by our Lord, " I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, even if he die, shall live; and whoever lives and believes in me, shall never die." It is a fine line that separates the night from the light of a newborn day. Surely Ben has seen that dawning of that new Day.

I was just scrolling through all of the messages  accumulated since 2007, looking for familiar names, (yes, it took awhile). I haven\'t been on this website for quite some time...looking for new messsages. My RHS class of  1952 will have our 60th reunion in the fall of 2012, in Clark. God willing, Art and I  plan to attend. Thanks to all the  folks on the committee who have worked to put it together.

Did not attend Raway High but during the late 50\'s I had a friend who did by the name of Puggy Hathaway. Recently, something reminded me of him and I decided to do the research which led me to your wonderful site.
I would appreciate any information concerning any kind of possible contact.
Thanks[St. Vinnies]

I attended the buffet get-together last night
at the Firehouse in Rahway put o n by the Class
of \'61.

While the thoughts and emotions are still fresh
I\'d like to say just how much I enjoyed seeing
everyone who attended and how saddened I was to learn of the health problems a lot of
my classmates are currently suffering though.

I won\'t embarrass anyone by naming them but I
want them all to know that they made the evening a a very warming experience. The glow is still with me. It was an emotional high touching base with them again and seeing faces, though
a little heavier and a little grayer, make up so much of my happy memories at RHS.

Given our ages and situations it is entirely possible we will not see each other again. Not
in this life. Should that be the case, know I wish you all Godspeed. I love you all.

Ok, two exceptions: Linda, Bunny...thanks for being there. Only warm thoughts accompany
my memories of you.

Tom Nolan

Must be the Irish in me that I should be so
maudlin.
